BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN DENTAL HYGIENE DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM

A total of 123 credit hours are required to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene, including Texas core curriculum courses, program prerequisites, entry-level dental hygiene courses, and advanced dental hygiene major courses that are offered at the UT Health Science Center.

All bachelor’s degree completion students who are graduates of the entry-level certificate dental hygiene program at the UT Health Science Center must complete at least three of the courses listed below, for a total of 9.0 semester credit hours. Registered Dental Hygienists who are not graduates of the UT Health Science Center entry-level program are required to take a minimum of 30 semester credit hours on the UT Health Science Center campus to earn the bachelor’s degree.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN DENTAL HYGIENE DEGREE PROGRAM

Graduate students are required to complete six core courses, as well as conduct and defend her/his thesis research. Each student may select from a list of Dental Hygiene, Dental School, or Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Selective courses to complete her or his curriculum plan. Graduation requires the successful completion of a minimum of 36 semester credit hours, including the thesis. Stu­dents may enroll as full- or part-time students and have a maximum of six years to complete the graduate study. An extension of the six-year maximum may be granted under unusual circumstances, if recommended by the Committee on Graduate Studies for Dental Hygiene and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
